Summer is here! That means it’s back to mowing the lawn once a week so you don’t have to get the bush hog out. Like most people, you probably haven’t seen your mower since last year. A lot can happen over winter including the degradation of your tires. If your tires are flat, punctured, or dry rotting, it’s time for a new set. However, there are many different types of lawn tires and treads to choose from and the choice can be overwhelming. The tire experts at Clem Tire locations in Alabama want to make that decision easier!
Choosing the right tire tread for your specific application is central to deciding the right tire for you. Almost all tread types are broken down into three categories: smooth, lug, and turf. Smooth Tread - These tire’s main advantage is protecting your turf or fancy sod. They allow for a gentle glide over the surface of your yard to avoid the damage more aggressive tread will cause. Mostly used on golf courses where the uniformity of the turf is paramount. Lug Tread - If your yard is one big hill this is the tread for you. In other words, you will get the most traction from lug tire tread. They also perform better in slippery, muddy, or rough areas. Turf Tread - These tires are a happy compromise between the high-tread lug tires and the non-existent tread of the smooths. They provide medium traction in muddy and slick conditions while causing very little damage to the turf itself. This is the recommended tire for most people.
