The Fluids Your Vehicle Needs the Most

posted on

There are several fluids hard at work inside your vehicle. Together they keep your car in optimal performance. Checking and refilling most of these fluids are basic maintenance services that can be done between tune-ups. It takes several moving parts with varying temperatures, chemicals, and airflow to get your vehicle moving and to keep it in the best shape possible.Important Auto Fluids in Athens, Madison, Huntsville, AL

Regularly replacing your vehicle’s fluids at the proper intervals will greatly extend the longevity of your vehicle, prevent an untimely breakdown, reduce the likelihood of expensive repairs, and keep your car running in the best shape possible.

Seven fluids are necessary to keep your vehicle in good shape.

  1. Fuel:Fuel is the number one fluid your vehicle needs to perform. Your vehicle needs fuel to be able to move.
  2. Motor Oil:After fuel, the most critical fluid is Oil. Oil lubricates all the moving components of your engine and prevents overheating. Without oil, your engine would soon overheat and seize up.Oil should be changed according to your manufacturer recommended service interval in your owner’s manual, typically around 5,000 miles.
  3. Coolant: Coolant helps to lower the temperature of the engine and prevent your motor from overheating. It is best to have the coolant flushed and changed every 3 years.
  4. Brakes Fluid:Brakes fluid provides the pressure that allows your vehicle to come to a stop. Over time, brake fluid can become incredibly corrosive. For this reason, it is recommended that you change the brake fluid every two years.
  5. Power Steering Fluid: The power steering fluid helps you be able to control your vehicle’s wheels. You will find it hard to steer your wheel and turn when your vehicle lacks power steering fluid. Schedule a fluid change every three years, or 30,000- 50,000 miles.
  6. Transmission FluidTransmission fluid lubricates the gearbox so you can switch gears. Never drive with low or no transmission fluid. Change your fluid every 60,000-100,000 miles, depending on the recommendations contained in your owner’s manual.
  7. Windshield Wiper Fluid:The windshield wiper fluid is a mixture of detergents and solvents sprayed onto the windshield to ensure visibility.
